After losing to Ohio State, Creighton Basketball bounces back after beating Boise State and improving to 3-1. What are some early season takeaways for the Bluejays?

There were countless questions surrounding the new-look Bluejays heading into this 2018-2019 college basketball season. Last season, Creighton Basketball said goodbye to four seniors as well as Ronnie Harrell Jr. who transferred to the University of Denver. Now, just four games into the new season and the young squad has shown life, but questions still remain.

Creighton narrowly avoided being upset in their first two games after they took on Western Illinois and East Tennessee St at home in Omaha. In their season opener, the Jays up-tempo offense picked up where it left off last year, but the defense struggled mightily in the 78-67 win. Then, in a defensive battle against East Tennessee St, the Jays rallied back after being down 12 and ended the game on a 24-6 run to win 75-69.

The Jays first true test of the season came last Thursday when they took on Ohio State in the annual Gavitt Games showdown between the Big East and Big Ten conferences. After being down double digits yet again, the Jays battled back and found themselves defending a four-point lead in the final three minutes. Just when it was looking like the Jays were going to remain undefeated, the Buckeyes ended the game on a magical 13-0 run to win 69-60.

With little time to gather themselves after a tough loss, the Jays grabbed their passports and flew out the following day for the 2018 Cayman Islands Classic. On Monday night, Creighton bounced back with their best overall performance of the season in a 94-82 victory over Boise State. In a game that featured offensive fireworks, Creighton was firing on all cylinders as they shot at their highest clip this season (57.9%).

With all of that being said, here are three of my biggest takeaways after last night’s victory overseas.
