Week two of the NCAA Basketball season is in the books. Who had the best mid-major performances of the week?

Best Performance, Individual – Khalil Ahmad

Just days after Wake Forest needed a late 10-0 to beat Cal State Fullerton 66-59 at the Myrtle Beach Invitational, Khalil Ahmad came out and dropped 40 points in CSF’s dismantling for former mid-major darlings and current also-rans Monmouth.

Ahmad was not the star CSF expected to lead the way for the Titans heading into the season. Fellow senior Kyle Allman Jr was the preseason favorite to take home the Big West Player of the Year award.

Allman has had a solid start to the season (17.5-3.8-3.0), but Ahmad has been the Titans focal point thus far, culminating in the efficient 40-point performance in CSF’s 87-63 win over the Hawks.

Allman shot 13-22 from the field, including 8-13 from three-point range, and 6-8 from the free throw line. He also grabbed five rebounds and four steals.

The Titans aren’t leading the Big West currently, but it will be hard to compete with their dynamic backcourt duo come postseason time.

Honorable mention goes to Jon Axel Gudmundsson’s 33-8-3 line in Davidson’s strong 57-53 win over Wichita State, Jeff Dowtin’s 31-3-2-2-1 in Rhode Island’s solid 76-74 victory over Rhode Island, Chris Clemons’ 34-6-5-1 for Campbell’s 78-72 win over Austin Peay, Devontae Cacock’s 22-26(!)-2-2-1 line against a DII school for UNC-W, and the not one, but TWO times a player tied the NCAA three-pointers in a single-game record this week (more on that later.)
