SEC Basketball has played in some tough competition in interconfernce play to start the season. That being said, where do they stack up against themselves?
As the regular season has gotten in full swing for college basketball, the SEC has definitely been tested. Despite this fact, the conference has definitely held its own. Without playing any teams in its own conference, the SEC has gone 52-25 in all of its games. However, very few teams have been truly tested.
The first test began when Kentucky was obliterated by Duke to start the year. Despite being ranked above Duke in the preseason power rankings, no one blames Kentucky for not being able to handle the wrecking ball that is Zion Williamson. Since that game, Kentucky hasn’t lost to all of its inferior opponents.
Auburn faced a similar challenge in the Maui Invitational when they played the same Blue Devils that gave Kentucky fits. Despite many mistakes, the Tigers only lost by six points to Duke. This result is also Auburn’s only loss, as they routed Arizona to earn third place in the tournament.
The last undefeated team left in the SEC was the Tennessee Volunteers, but that came to an end when they lost an overtime battle against Kansas. That is by far their hardest game, while their previous opponents were not real challenges. Despite the loss to the Jayhawks, Tennessee still showed why they are a powerhouse in the SEC.
With a top-heavy conference, how do the teams rank against each other? Here’s how I see the complete power rankings.
