19. Virginia Tech Hokies

Last Week: No. 12

Virginia Tech dropped seven spots this week due to two major factors. For starters, the Hokies suffered their first loss of the season in a road bout against Penn State. Additionally, there were several teams knocking on the door of moving up in the rankings who won their games of the week. But considering VT will be favored in every other non-conference game this year, they should bounce back to the top-15 very quickly.

Furthermore, the Hokies have been excellent on both ends of the floor in this young season. Offensively, it is hard to find a more efficient shooting team. Although VT has definitely struggled at the free throw line (67.8%), they rank in the top-10 nationally in both FG% (51.5% – 9th) and 3P% (44.9% – 4th). Oh, and they are also holding teams to 39.7% shooting and 58.0 points per game.

In terms of leadership, sophomore guard Nickeil Alexander-Walker is doing a little bit of everything. He is currently posting 17.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game on shooting slashes (FG/3P/FT) of .533/.424/.789.
