Anthony Edwards became the top prospect in the 2019 NCAA Basketball recruiting class after reclassifying. With eight finalists, which is his most likely landing spots?

When big man James Wiseman elected to commit to Memphis for the 2018-19 college basketball season, Tigers fans had thought that they had the No. 1 player for the upcoming recruiting class. Those hopes faded after just a couple of weeks, thanks to a reclassification.

Anthony Edwards is a five-star prospect from Holy Spirit Prep School out of Atlanta, Georgia. Originally part of the 2020 class, things changed after a spectacular summer session. The 6’5 guard averaged around 21 ppg and six rebounds a game on 45% shooting in the Under Armour AAU circuit against some of the best amateur competition in the U.S. It allowed him to have the option of switching classes, one that just recently he choose.

A consensus top-5 prospect, 247Sports has Edwards ranked as the No. 1 recruit for the 2019 class. It also makes sense that he would reclassify, considering the lack of guards in the upcoming recruiting class. According to 247SportsCompostite, just 10 of the top 33 players are guards, with even fewer natural shooting guards like Edwards. It presents an opportunity for him to make an even bigger impact on whichever college program he chooses.

Edwards will very likely be around for just one season, as he’s projected to be at worst a lottery pick in the 2020 NBA Draft. His size and shooting ability has been compared to James Harden, with Duke’s RJ Barrett also being a fair comparison.

The top player for the 2019 class has selected eight teams that are in contention for his services. Which of them are the most likely to land him? And more importantly, who of the eight provides the best chance at him winning in Edwards’ likely lone season?
