Kansas Jayhawks

One of the biggest surprises this season has been the extraordinary play of senior guard Lagerald Vick, who’s been primarily responsible for Kansas‘ 7-0 unbeaten start to the season. He’s leading the team with 20.8 ppg and has helped offset some of the consistencies of the underclassmen guards.

But Vick will graduate, leaving a whole at the two-spot for the Jayhawks. He’s also likely won’t be the only early departure, with five-star freshmen Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes potentially “one and done”. All-American candidate Dedric Lawson has been attracting the eyes of NBA scouts, while junior center Udoka Azubuike may be considering leaving after this season as well.

There’s a ton of questions for Kansas and the roster, which may have an impact on at least the early part of recruiting. So far, the Jayhawks have commitments from four-star combo guard Issac McBride and three-star small forward Christian Braun. With no clue of who’s leaving, many of the top-100 recruits in the 2019 class may be in a “wait and see” mode.

Edwards wouldn’t have to wait, as he’ll get the minutes and shots regardless of who’s on the roster. But it’ll still be important as to who his surrounding pieces will be, especially at the ball handler position. If he decides early, Kansas may be at a disadvantage.
