Week four of the NCAA Basketball season is complete. Who had the best mid-major performances of the week?

Best Performance, Team – Radford Highlanders

There can only be one team of the week, and the Highlanders of Radford more than earned that distinction.

The defending Big South Tournament champions went into Austin and came away with a 62-59 upset over the Texas Longhorns.

The veteran-heavy squad had a balanced attack, with six players score between seven and 11 points.

The team’s leading scorer, Carlick Jones, only had seven points, but the all-around guard came through when it mattered, spinning and scooping his way to a game-winning layup with under 30 seconds to play.

Double-double machine Ed Polite Jr. shot a paltry 4-15 from the field, but paced the Highlanders with 11 points, while Jones led the team with eight rebounds and four assists despite a cold shooting night.

Radford is now receiving votes in the AP Top-25 Poll for the first time in program history. The Highlanders received nine votes, tying them with TCU and placing them above several traditionally-strong Power Five schools.

A repeat performance in the Big South Tournament could slate the Highlanders as a trendy upset pick in this year’s NCAA Tournament.

Honorable mention goes to Texas Southern’s 89-84 upset of Oregon in Eugene. It actually happened last week, but the game finished after the week three story was already filed.
