NCAA Basketball: Top 10 mid-majors from first month of 2018-19 season
8. Saint Louis Billikens 6-1
The Atlantic 10 hasn’t exactly draped itself in glory during the first month of the season, but one team that is trying to buck that trend is Travis Ford’s Saint Louis Billikens. The Billikens are 6-1 which includes wins over Big East teams Seton Hall and Butler, the team’s lone loss was a two-point loss to Pittsburgh.
The guard trio of Javon Bess, Tramaine Isabell Jr., and Jordan Goodwin are the Billikens three leading scorers, combining for 37.9 points, 17.3 rebounds, and 7.6 assists and forward Carte’Are Gordon is a freshman from St. Louis who came up big in the win over Seton Hall with 14 points and four rebounds and has averaged 8.1 points and 3.7 rebounds over the course of the season. Fellow forward D.J. Foreman is a senior who has had a similar season so far with 7.4 points and 4.6 rebounds. One other forward who has been very productive in 25 minutes is sophomore Hasahn French who is averaging 7.1 points and 7.4 rebounds.
The rest of the Billikens’ 2018 schedule will give them the chance to show that they are the Atlantic 10’s best team. Before the calendar turns, they have matchups with Southern Illinois, Oregon State, Houston, and Florida State.
