11: Fordham (6-2)

Outside of their horrendous loss to Maine, Fordham deserves a lot of credit for the start they’ve gotten off to. A near-unanimous pick in the coaches’ poll to finish dead last in the conference this season, the Rams have surprised and are playing with solid chemistry (eight players averaging at least 5 points per game). They haven’t faced any real competition yet, but the fact that they are winning (almost) all of the games they should be winning is promising in and of itself. They’re set to play Rutgers on Saturday 12/8, so that will give us a much better measure of how competitive this team can be against actual opponents.

For now, just look for the Rams to continue to improve and figure out their identity, as all of their best players are all transfers and freshmen. Freshman point guard Nick Honor has been really surprising to this point and looks like he will eventually develop into an all-A10 caliber player, and Saint Peter’s transfer Antwon Portley is providing a steady veteran presence (10 points, 3 rebounds, 3 assists per game).

Who knows; if the bottom of the A10 is really as bad as it’s been playing so far, the Rams may even have a chance to avoid ending up in the bottom 4, let alone finishing last.
