Duke Basketball once again landed a huge commit in Vernon Carey Jr. Here’s a look at the potential impact for the program involving the class of 2019 big man.

Coach K and the Duke Blue Devils have an embarrassment of riches this year in Durham. The recruiting trail has been good to the Blue Devils. So good in fact, that they never have a rebuilding year. In the era of the one and done player this is hard to do.

Duke fully embraces the one and done culture. Coach K has zero problem recruiting kids who are only going to be on campus for a season. He has shown he can win with them, and looks like he will continue to win with them as well. The latest commitment to the Blue Devil program is likely going to be a one and done and has a game that mirrors a current and former Blue Devil.

Vernon Carey Jr. out of Florida, announced his commitment to Coach K and the Duke program earlier this afternoon. The center is a top-5 ranked players in the country and is the prized possession in this current recruiting class for Duke. The center chose the Blue Devils over several other blue blood programs. The Blue Devils won the services of Carey Jr. over Michigan State and in state rival North Carolina.

The big man from Florida will likely only grace the floor at Cameron Indoor for one season, but that one season that he plays at Duke, it should be expected to get massive amounts of productivity. Coach K and the rest of the Duke coaching staff are showing everyone that even without ace recruiter Jeff Capel.

Even though Capel took a job as the head man at Pitt, they are still able to make waves on the recruiting trail. It should come as no surprise to anyone that their recruiting is not going to drop off. The name Duke carries a ton of weight nationally and with Coach K’s prowess the Blue Devils will be on top for many years to come.
