Turnover Battle

The numbers tell opposing narratives in regards to ball security for these two squads.

While a Wisconsin turnover is a rare sight most seasons, so far in 2018 the Badgers have been even better than most seasons averaging just 8.8 turnovers per game. That number is good for 3rd in the nation, trailing only St. Joseph’s and defensive juggernaut Virginia.

It’s no secret Wisconsin wants to play a very methodical and deliberate style as they pride themselves on making the right pass and taking the right shots. If the Badgers can get an early lead and control the tempo, even a solid shooting Marquette team will struggle to make a comeback.

In contrast to the Badgers, the Golden Eagles have been downright sloppy on occasions this season as the team has averaged 15.2 turnovers in its first nine contests, which puts them near the bottom nationally at 278th. They’ve managed okay against inferior opponents and managed to take down Kansas State by being able to get some easy buckets in transition. However, reckless turnovers going against a Wisconsin team that likes a slower pace could prove deadly.

Marquette will be looking to recapture its spectacular performance last season in Madison where the Golden Eagles turned it over just nine times and shot 14 of 22 from deep en route to a 19 point victory.
