3) Georgetown is going to be really good next year

I’m pretty sure I’m not going to get a lot of chances to talk about this Georgetown team this season so I want to take advantage of it while I can.

Despite that loss to Syracuse on Saturday, one thing has become abundantly clear about the Hoyas – they’re going to be competitive and will be really, really good next year.

It’s only a matter of time until freshman point guard James Akinjo becomes a national star and Mac McClung has flashed that potential as well. And, with four underclassmen in the starting lineup, this core is going to have a real chance to grow together over the next two and a half years.

Give Patrick Ewing a lot of credit. When he took over the program last year, the Hoyas were coming off of two consecutive losing seasons, had missed the NCAA Tournament in three of the previous four years, and had a roster largely devoid of talent. Ewing built a foundation last year and is building on that with good recruiting and excellent on-court strategy.

Georgetown will be back at the top of the Big East before we know it.
