280. Dave Pilipovich (Air Force)
- Overall record 87-118
A longtime D-I assistant, Pilipovich was promoted to head coach in February 2012. While his first full season resulted in a CIT appearance, Air Force has lived near the bottom of the Mountain West in the five seasons since then, finishing no higher than 9th place.
279. Martin Ingelsby (Delaware)
- Overall record 34-41
Ingelsby played at and spent thirteen seasons as an assistant at Notre Dame before taking the Delaware job in 2016. There hasn’t been anything impressive about his first two seasons as a head coach, but the CAA isn’t as easy a conference as it seems. His win total rose from 13 to 14 and it may just rise again in year three.
278. Todd Lee (South Dakota)
- Overall record 4-4
Lee took the South Dakota job in 2018 after five years as an assistant at Grand Canyon. His previous head coaching experience is eight years at Kentucky Wesleyan with a bevy of D-II NCAA Tournament appearances. South Dakota isn’t the most impressive program, but Craig Smith built up some momentum before leaving for Utah State; perhaps Lee can expand on that.
277. Baker Dunleavy (Quinnipiac)
- Overall record 14-25
A player and assistant under Jay Wright at Villanova, Dunleavy took the Quinnipiac post in 2017 with no other playing or coaching experience in his past. His first year ended 12-21, but at least he comes from a great basketball family. His father Mike Sr. coaches Tulane his brother Mike Jr. spent 15 years in the NBA.
276. Darian DeVries (Drake)
- Overall record 5-1
After graduating from Northern Iowa in 1998, DeVries joined the Creighton staff as graduate manager. Named assistant coach in 2001, he would spend 20 total years at Creighton before being hired by Drake in 2018. Niko Medved did great work in his one year in Des Moines, but Drake might be in for some initial struggles as they rebuild.
275. Louis Rowe (James Madison)
- Overall record 27-49
A former player and assistant, Rowe has hired to lead his alma mater in 2016 after spending time as an assistant for FIU and Bowling Green. He’s just 27-49 in his first head coaching job but projects to have a better third season.
274. Rick Ray (Southeast Missouri State)
- Overall record 76-123
Many were confused when Ray, then a Clemson assistant, was hired as head coach of Mississippi State in 2012. He only lasted three years and has followed that up with three less than stellar seasons at SE Missouri State. Overall, he’s 76-123 without any postseason bids and he’s not exactly in a prime position for success right now.
273. Paul Mills (Oral Roberts)
- Overall record 14-28
Mills took the Oral Roberts job in 2017 following 14 years assisting Scott Drew at Baylor. He has only high school head coaching experience, and his 11-21 debut might be the normal, especially having to contend with Oral Roberts’ strict recruiting requirements.
272. George Ivory (Arkansas-Pine Bluff)
- Overall record 121-208
Ivory bounced around as an assistant before being hired to lead Pine Bluff in 2008. He did lead the Golden Lions to an NCAA bid back in 2010, but things have been mostly barren since then, with just 29 wins in the last three seasons.
271. Anthony Stewart (Tennessee-Martin)
- Overall record 35-36
Stewart was promoted to head coach in 2016, having also served as an assistant for schools like Wyoming, Southern Illinois, and Ohio. A 22-13 season with a CIT appearance was followed up with a 10-21 struggle for the Skyhawks. There might be more of the same for Stewart moving forward in the OVC.
