Oklahoma Sooners

Want to talk about a place where guards shine? How about Oklahoma.

Last season, five-star freshman Trae Young exploded for one of the best seasons in recent memory. Just two seasons before, Buddy Hield had an equally impressive shooting season, both of the two garnering national recognition for their performances.

This season, Christian James has been given the keys to the offense, and has thrived after staying under-the-radar for his first three collegiate seasons. If history repeats itself, Quinerly could be the next guard to thrive under Lon Kruger at Oklahoma.

Leading up to his eventual commitment to Villanova, Quinerly was heavily linked to the Sooners. With Oklahoma losing their top player in James after this season, they’ll certainly be looking for a pure scorer to be next in line to take over their offense. Given the past interest and Quinerly’s playing type, it’s very likely that Oklahoma would be an appealing destination for Quinerly.

Additionally, if Quinerly’s issue at Villanova is the lack of usage, wouldn’t it be of his benefit to go to the place where he’d essentially be the top, and even only option on offense? If Quinerly was interested in Oklahoma as is, wouldn’t he be even more interested if it meant that he would have the biggest opportunity to shine?

There’s no doubt that Quinerly has the talent; he wasn’t ranked as a five-star recruit by accident. However, he needs to prove himself to NBA scouts, if thats the road that he wants to go down, after not showing up at all at Villanova, and the best way for him to do that would be to take advantage of the opportunity to showcase his offensive talents in the biggest way possible.
