3. Mississippi State Bulldogs

Last Week: 4 (↑ 1)

Mississippi State has exceeded the expectations of most fans around the conference. With an 8-1 record, they are one of only three teams to have just one loss. That loss came to Arizona State, a team that is moving up the rankings.

As expected, Quinndary Weatherspoon is leading the charge for State. His 16.8 points a game is highest on the team. With those points, he is also is getting 5.0 boards and 2.7 assists. The senior guard has done very well for the Bulldogs, but this is definitely not just a single-person charge. Lamar Peters is right behind him with 14.1 points, 2.4 boards, and 5.7 assists. Aric Holman is averaging nearly a double-double.

Behind the upperclassmen is sophomore guard Nick Weatherspoon, Quinndary’s brother. He is a great sign for the future of this team as the older players leave over the next two years.

State has a chance to go unbeaten for the rest of 2018. Their true tests will come when they have to travel to Lexington and host Auburn in a five-day span. If they split those games, that will be a win for the Bulldogs. If they somehow find a way to win out through the Auburn game, then this team will skyrocket up the rankings of both the SEC and the NCAA.
