SEC Power Rankings: Kentucky slips, Tennessee takes top spot

14. Georgia Bulldogs

As previously stated, Georgia will probably spend most of their time at the bottom of these rankings. In a rebuilding year, that is to be expected. The coaching change over the offseason came with the notion that fans would have to be patient. So far this season, they are having to do so.
Georgia is 5-3, but that is without any real tests. After embarrassing losses to Clemson and Georgia State, they rallied to beat Kennesaw State and Texas Southern. That being said, it’s still Kennesaw State and Texas Southern.
On a high note, Georgia has been a fundamentally sound defensive team. It hasn’t been stellar, but they are averaging over 6 blocks a game. Personally, I would prefer for a team to have high steal numbers to block numbers, for a lot of blocks come from offensive rebounds, and steals force good transition offense to the other end, something UGA desperately needs.
In terms of the future, Georgia’s sophomore class has been leading the team. Rayshaun Hammonds, Nicolas Claxton, and TeShaun Hightower lead the team in points, rebounds, and assists, respectively. Pair that core with a couple of Tom Crean recruiting classes, and the Bulldogs have enough to turn this team around. For now, however, they have to take the bottom spot of the SEC rankings.
Coming up, Georgia has a huge test against Arizona State. A loss here is expected, but UGA has a chance to prove that they can at least keep games interesting. If they start strong, it might be a best-case scenario for the Bulldogs.
