11. Ole Miss Rebels

Last Week: 12th (↑ 1)

Ole Miss moved up more by default than by accolade. A team that refuses to play quality opponents (or at least teams in the Power 5)  does not deserve to make the top 10. Their only “big school” game was against Baylor, and they have crashed this year. Hats off to the Rebels for not getting upset by inferior opponents, but they will not be rewarded for their scheduling.

The sad part is the fact that they are not done playing against bad teams. They will go into SEC play without any true challenges. They will probably go into their game against Vanderbilt with one of the best records in the SEC.

The good news for the Rebels is that there are some things that will transfer over in any game, no matter the opponent. For example, Ole Miss is making 80% of their free throws, one of the best percentages in the country. Free throws will still be free next year when they have to play SEC teams.

The bad news is that there are some things that won’t go well when they start playing good teams. They aren’t forcing a lot of turnovers right now, and that’s a bad sign of what’s to come. They should be forcing tons of turnovers against these teams, but their pressure isn’t getting to them. There is still hope, but it is definitely fleeting if they can’t dominate opponents as much as they should be.
