3) What has happened to Quentin Grimes?
Do you remember all the way back on November 6 when Quentin Grimes was the best player on the court in a game between two top-10 teams in Kansas and Michigan State? He had 21 points, made six threes, and showed his playmaking ability with four assists.
Can you recall hearing his name since then?
The five-star freshman has been largely underwhelming since the performance in the opener. He has made fewer three-pointers (five) in the last eight games combined than he did against the Spartans and has only cracked double-digit points on two occasions (Vermont, Wofford).
His struggles came to a head against Villanova. Grimes played a season-low 14 minutes, took only two shots, and scored only one point to go along with three turnovers.
Lagerald Vick and Dedric Lawson have clearly been KU’s best players all season and they know Udoka Azubuike will dominate when he returns from an ankle injury. But the Jayhawks have question marks outside of that trio and Grimes’ disappearance is cause for alarm.
Teams need quality guard play to make long runs in March, meaning Grimes has to turn his game around. He might just be the key to how successful Kansas is this season.
