NCAA Basketball Power Rankings: Oklahoma rises, Gonzaga falls
15. Houston Cougars
Record: 10-0 (0-0 AAC)
Last Rank: No. 18
One of the biggest complaints regarding Houston heading into this past week was their poor strength of schedule. Well, after handling business against LSU and Saint Louis, that should no longer apply. Houston has simply been incredible so far this season to stand as one of the last undefeated teams in the nation at 10-0.
And this is thanks in large part to their incredible defensive play. The Cougars are among the most versatile defensive teams in the nation and they can pretty much match up with anyone on that end of the floor. Houston is currently holding opponents to just 60.2 points per game and they rank 16th in the nation in opponent effective field goal percentage (43.2%).
But their offense is nothing to overlook, either. With upperclassmen Armoni Brooks (15.8 points) and Corey Davis Jr. (15.7 points) leading the way, they also have enough offensive firepower to be dangerous in a high-scoring affair. It is also important to mention the Cougars play two freshmen upwards of 20 minutes per game and those two are only going to improve as the season continues.
