Michigan Basketball: 5 Things the Wolverines need for Christmas in 2018
By Adam Childs
4. A 17-0 Start
The Wolverines have already matched their third-best start in school history at 11-0 and have two very winnable games left on their non-conference schedule before they dive deep into Big Ten play. Win those two and they end the calendar year 13-0 and their second-best start ever.
The last time Michigan went 16-0 was in 2013 when Trey Burke and company would reach the number one ranking before losing to hated rival Ohio State. While they would stumble a few more times during the year, the Wolverines would make it all the way to the Championship game before losing to Louisville.
That 16-0 start matched the best ever for a basketball team at Michigan and this team would love to make their own history by eclipsing that and at least making it to 17-0. While it does not guarantee any success in the future it would be nice to part of history and the way this team has played so far this year, Wolverines fans are dreaming big.
In order to get to 17-0, the Wolverines will only have to win one road game and that is at Illinois. The Fighting Illini are capable of playing well, but they are not expected to be anywhere near the top of the Big Ten. The biggest challenge will be home games against Indiana who is currently ranked 22 in the country and a rematch with Northwestern who Michigan only beat by two. If they can get through them and a home game with Penn State they will enjoy the best start ever.
Of course, all Wolverine fans would love for the streak to continue even further but a 17-0 start would be a great way to cement a great start to the season.
