Big East Basketball Rankings: SJU remains undefeated, DePaul surprising
Unlike just about everyone else in the nation, I have not sold all of my stock on Villanova yet. Sure, the Wildcats have been one of the most disappointing teams in the entire country but there is still enough talent for this to be a scary team as the year goes on. I mean, their losses to Furman and Penn are certainly embarrassing but they still have those performances against Florida State and Kansas (even in a loss) to hang their hat on.
Villanova has easily been the most inconsistent team in the nation so far in my opinion, and they could be special should everything click at some point. Maybe not as special as the last few seasons but still a legitimate second-weekend contender. The question is, though: Will this team ever reach its potential this season? That answer remains cloudy but hopefully the team will start to turn on the jets once conference play starts.
Villanova is no longer the favorite to win the Big East and maybe they can use this as motivation. The Wildcats, for the first time in what feels like forever, need to show that they can consistently play a high level or they might fall to the middle of the pack in the conference. The team will need to get more consistent performances out of Eric Paschall (and the rest of the roster, for that matter) in order for this to happen, though.
