Tennessee Basketball: 5 Things the Volunteers need for Christmas in 2018
By Adam Childs
2. Admiral Schofield looking like a POY candidate
After a somewhat slow start the year where Schofield only scored 13, 15 and 8 points in his first three games, he has been an absolute force. He has scored 20 or more points in five of his last six games including a 30 point performance against Gonzaga.
He is shooting almost 50% from the field including right at 43% from outside. He is grabbing just under seven rebounds a game and averaging 19.1 points. He has been the overall player that has helped Tennessee to their great start.
The biggest example was when he scored 25 points in the second half of their upset win over Gonzaga. He was unstoppable and was the best player on the court. He single-handedly led the Volunteers to their biggest win in years. He would shoot 6-10 from three-pointers and showed how he is one of the most versatile players in the country.
Not many people were talking about Schofield as one of the best players coming into this year, but after his last few games, they need to start paying attention. As long as he keeps playing at this high level, Tennessee will be a top five team and maybe better.
