Big East Basketball has been considering expanding to an 11th member. What would be the consequences of the rest NCAA Basketball if that occurs?

Recently the Big East hinted at the notion that they would be interested in potential expansion and even claimed to have already informally heard from a handful of schools.  With 10 teams currently in their ranks, the Big East is allegedly interested in adding one more team, clocking in at 11 teams overall.  The other day our very own Brian Foley took a look at programs who could make the transition.  Which got me thinking, could the fact the Big East looking to add one team trigger another conference realignment?

Via speculation, there’s been some schools and conferences linked to the potential conference expansion of the Big East, but for now, it’s just rumor and innuendo until something actually occurs and the landscape morphs to fit something more modern.

While I was at Nichols College (go Bison!), in one of my sport management classes my professor-now the esteemed Dr. Joel Cormier, had us do a conference realignment project.  So, today I’m channeling my inner-Corms and reliving that class assignment in a different light.  Also, shout out to his dog, Marcus, who he shares a bunch of pictures of on Social Media.

Today we’re going to look at a few “what if” situations involving said rumored teams and what might happen to their conferences and who could step in to replace them if they were to pack their bags and head for the Big East.

If the scenario were to ever play out, it’ll be interesting to see what type of trickle-down impact this could have on the High, Mid and Low-major levels of the college basketball world.
