10. Virginia Tech Hokies
Record: 10-1 (0-0 ACC)
Last Week: No. 14
Virginia Tech might not have one “signature win” to this point in the year but the team has performed tremendously. Behind the coaching of Buzz Williams, the Hokies have emerged as one of the nation’s most efficient offenses. With the dynamic backcourt duo of Nickeil Alexander-Walker and Justin Robinson leading the way, this team not only has the capable playmakers needed to run a balanced offense but also a couple of guards who can go get their own bucket at any time.
In terms of roster construction, Virginia Tech has a great mix of experience and youth. When times get tough, Coach Williams can rely on his veterans to come through with huge buckets and defensive stops. Additionally, the budding stars on the roster should only improve over the course of this season. Perhaps most notably, freshman guard Isaiah Wilkins has the potential to develop into a major piece for the team. He is already averaging 16.7 minutes per game and has flashed some signs of quality offensive play (44.0% from three).
Virginia Tech might not be the favorites to win the ACC but they have enough talent to knock off the top teams in the conference on any given night. The Hokies set the pace of games tremendously well and their guard play can make life difficult on many opponents.
