6. Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 10-1 (0-0 Big 12)

Last Week: No. 1

Kansas dropped its first game of the season this past week on the road against Arizona State. And while that is far from a “bad loss” it did force the Jayhawks to tumble down my rankings a bit as multiple undefeated teams (and Duke) jumped them. This might seem like a tough drop for just one loss but it is important to mention that Kansas had not exactly been dominating their opponents prior to their loss to ASU. Most notably, they only managed to win by three over both NMSU and Villanova while needing overtime to take care of Stanford. So even though their collection of wins is great, I am leaning towards the undefeated teams at this moment.

With that said, though, Kansas is still clearly in my top-tier of teams this season. Also, they could be the most talented team in the nation when at full strength (Udoka Azubuike is out at the moment). Still the clear favorite to win the Big 12, I would not be surprised if the Jayhawks returned to their perch at the No. 1 spot sooner rather than later, especially when healthy.

Head coach Bill Self has a deep, talented, and relatively experienced team on his hands with the potential for a deep NCAA Tournament run. Will the Jayhawks roll through conference play the way they have the past several seasons or will there be some hiccups along the way?
