23. Arizona State Sun Devils

Record: 9-2 (0-0 Pac-12)

Last Week: No. 22

While many might think that knocking off Kansas would lead to a significant jump in the rankings by Arizona State this week, it is important to remind everyone that the team also fell to Vanderbilt earlier in the week. And with other teams posting very impressive (and undefeated) weeks, the Sun Devils could not climb up the rankings. They do, though, have plenty of potential to be a top-15 team down the road.

After a hot start to the season, star guard Luguentz Dort has seemingly returned to reality a bit during the past couple of weeks but his surrounding cast has stepped up nicely. Most notably, four other players scored in double-figures in ASU’s win over Kansas while Dort recorded 13 points on just 3-for-14 shooting from the field. This development of the supporting cast significantly raises the potential of this team as they now have multiple potential go-to scorers in big games.

Considering how poorly the Pac-12 has performed so far this season, the Sun Devils have emerged as the clear favorite. If they are able to roll through conference play the way many are expecting, a very high seed in the NCAA Tournament will await head coach Bobby Hurley’s team. Pac-12 play, though, will be riddled with potential crushing losses.
