There were several shifts in our projected field this past week despite a limited number of games. Check out this edition of bracketology.

The holiday season limited the number of college basketball games that occurred over this past week but I am still back with another Bracketology update. And while I understand that it is still extremely early to analyze at-large resumes, teams have definitely started to solidify their positions in the national rankings at this point in the year. There will, though, be plenty of shifts in the coming months as programs surprise, both positively and negatively, in conference play.

For the time being, these are my projections for how the committee would select and seed the NCAA Tournament heading into the coming weekend. These selections and seedings are based on the results through Dec. 27 (thanks Creighton-UMKC) and should provide a general idea of where a lot of teams stand heading into this final weekend of non-conference play and the beginning of conference schedules. As always, this projected field is not meant to predict what might happen in the future but where teams stand right now.

This projected field is based on the same criteria that the committee will use later in the year, most notably including predictive metrics as well as the new NET rankings for this season. Now with nearly two months of data collected, these rankings combined have started to paint a decent picture of what the eye test is telling us from consistently watching teams play on the court.

Now, without any further introduction, let’s dive into this week’s projected field! (Updated through results of Dec. 27. Stay on the lookout for a new bracketology update to be posted next Friday as well.)
