2. Florida Gators

As a Butler fan and student, this pains me to write but it simply the truth: Florida eviscerated Butler this past weekend. From the opening tip, the Gators showed they were the better team at the O’Dome as they launched out to a 21-0 lead in the first nine minutes of action. From there, they never let up on either end of the floor as the Gators quickly dispatched the Dawgs in their rematch battle (Butler defeated Florida last month). And considering Florida started this season rather slow, finishing non-conference on this high note has to have the team feeling pretty good heading into SEC play.

The Gators now stand at 8-4 on the year and have moved into the KenPom top-20 thanks to their superb defense (6th nationally in AdjD). Additionally, head coach Mike White’s team has scored at least 70 points in each of its last three games as their offense is clearly improving as well. Florida has won five of its last six games and clearly has plenty of momentum on its side as conference play begins next weekend.

Freshman guard Andrew Nembhard, most notably, has been extremely impressive to me. I was really high on the youngster heading into this season and he has exceeded expectations. In addition to being a tenacious defender, Nembhard has taken on a major leadership role for Florida this season. He is averaging 7.3 points, 5.8 assists, and 1.3 steals per game while hitting 43.3% from three.
