6. Kansas Jayhawks

Record: 11-1 (0-0 Big 12)

Last Week: No. 6

I might have Kansas down at No. 6 in these rankings but I certainly believe that they have na argument to be the top team in the nation. From a pure resume perspective, the Jayhawks have compiled a great collection of wins and have only suffered one loss to a solid Arizona State team on the road. Their victories to date include those over Michigan State, Marquette, Tennessee, Wofford, New Mexico State, and Villanova.

And while the obvious trio of Lagerald Vick, Udoka Azubuike (when healthy), and Dedric Lawson lead the way for the Jayhawks, I want to spotlight the freshmen-led backcourt of the team for this breakdown. After losing Devonte’ Graham and Malik Newman this offseason, the Jayhawks needed immediate production from their two incoming guards. And that is exactly what has occurred so far this year.

Both Devon Dotson and Quentin Grimes have started every game for Kansas so far this year and they are combining to average 19.3 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. They might not be putting up ridiculous numbers but they are playing within the offense and picking their spots well. These two should only improve over the course of this year and that raises Kansas’ ceiling.
