College of Charleston Cougars

The Charleston Cougars had a chance last season to pull off an upset last season in the tournament but they came up just short against No. 4 seed Auburn, losing 62-58. They lost some key players from a year ago but they have done a great job replacing those players this season. This team is lead by their two stars but the complementary players have been good as well.

Brevin Galloway and Zep Jasper have both stepped up in a big way for a team that needed some weapons alongside the main guys. Galloway is averaging 9.7 points and 3.1 rebounds per game. His biggest offensive strength is his 40% shooting on his 4.8 3-point attempts per game. Jasper has made a good impact as well with his seven points per game. These two aren’t needed for big numbers they just need to be a threat to open things up for their two stars.

Grant Riller and Jarrell Brantley form one of the best mid-major duos in college basketball, though. They are both playing at a high level as they’re taking on a larger role than they had last season. Riller is averaging 22.8 points, 4.6 assists, and 3 rebounds per game. He has become much more aggressive this season as he’s taken on a larger offensive role. His struggles from 3-point range haven’t been huge but they would like to see him improve in that area. He is making just 30% of them after making 39% last season.

Brantley is a senior forward who has had a great start to the season. He is averaging 20.1 points and 8.4 rebounds per game. He is an all-around stud who can impact the game in so many ways. He is a threat to score the basketball from anywhere on the floor. It takes more than two guys to pull off an upset but, with these two leading the way, they will have a chance to pull off an upset against any team they come up against.
