With conference play in full swing, there was plenty of NCAA Basketball action this week. Let’s take a lot at the top mid-major performers of the week.

Best Performance, Individual – Antoine Davis, Detroit Mercy Titans

Antoine Davis, the freshman sensation for the Detroit Mercy Titans, turned in his best performance of the season so far on Thursday with 48 points in a Titans win over fellow Horizon League foe Wright State.

Davis, who is currently second in the nation in scoring (27.3 ppg) behind Campbell’s four-year scoring machine Chris Clemons, set a program record with 10 three-pointers (on 15 attempts) and shot 15-24 from the floor and 8-9 from the line.

Detroit currently sits at 3-1 in Horizon League play, putting them in a tie for second with Northern Kentucky and Oakland (all behind Green Bay) despite a 6-10 overall record. Winning the league is certainly a possibility for the Titans, but they also wouldn’t be the favorites by any means.

But, with Davis in tow, anything can happen for a few games in the conference tournament, and I would love to see him on the big stage for March Madness.

Davis also through in a “quiet” 33-5-3 in a loss to Northern Kentucky on Saturday for good measure.

Honorable mention goes to UNC Wilmington’s Devontae Cacok continues to put up absurd numbers. He compiled 18 points and 19 rebounds in an overtime win vs James Madison. I will probably write about him at some point.

Other great performances this week include: 42-3-2-2 from Daishon Smith in a UL Monroe win over Little Rock, Ja Morant’s 34-8-10-2-1 (!) in a Murray State win over Eastern Kentucky, Sandy Cohen’s 30-7-6-2-3 plus the banked-in game-winner for Green Bay over Cleveland State, Justin Wright-Foreman’s 42 and 7 in a Hofstra win vs Northeastern, and JaKeenan Gant’s 45 and 11 in a Louisiana win over Little Rock (tough week for the Trojans).
