2. RJ Hampton

RJ Hampton is a 6-foot-4, five-star combo guard who ranks No. 5 overall and No. 1 in his position in the 2020 class. There was speculation that Hampton might reclassify to the 2019 class, but he announced this past summer that he will remain in the 2020 class. Hampton has taken official visits to Memphis, Kentucky, and Kansas. The Blue Devils offered Hampton in April of 2017 after he took an unofficial visit in October of 2017.

Hampton has outstanding handles – which helps him get into the lane where he is an excellent finisher. Not only does Hampton have outstanding handles, but he is shifty with the ball in his hands. His shiftiness gets defenders off-balance – which leads to many broken ankles. Hampton also displays a good shooting stroke that over time could help him develop into a great shooter, instead of a streaky shooter.

If Hampton decided to join the 2020-21 Blue Devil team, he could play either point guard or shooting guard depending on the roster and rotation. Hampton doesn’t resemble closely any former Blue Devils, but his game does resemble that of Trailblazers’ Damian Lillard.

The Blue Devils are predicted with a 62% chance to land Hampton according to the 247Sports crystal ball. Other teams involve Kansas with 25% and Kentucky with a 12% chance at the five-star. There is currently no timetable set for a college announcement by Hampton.
