Duke Basketball: 3 keys for the Blue Devils versus Florida State
By Zach De Jong
3. Play aggressive defense.
Over the last two games, the Seminoles have shot a combined 38% percent from the floor and 25% from the three-point line. Therefore, the Blue Devils need to play aggressive defense and keep their opponent in front of them.
M.J. Walker, David Nicholas, and Phil Cofer are the only players on the Seminole roster who are willing to take multiple threes a game and knock them down. Therefore, the Blue Devils can pack the lane and force the Seminoles into low percentage shots.
The Seminoles like to get out and play in transition. This sort of tempo could play into favor for the Blue Devils, though. The Blue Devils have excelled in the open floor this year with freshman point guard Tre Jones making excellent decisions. Zion Williamson and R.J. Barrett also excel in transition with their gifted athleticism. If both teams play fast and in transition, the Blue Devils would be heavy favorites due to their talent and athleticism.
Williamson and Barrett will also need to bring their best effort in order to knock off the highly-ranked Seminoles on the road. This will be the first ranked opponent they will face in a true road game. It will be interesting to see how the young Duke team responds to the physicality of a highly ranked ACC conference team.
