SEC Basketball: Key 2018-19 storylines for Tennessee at Florida
Will Florida be able to score?
As I said earlier, Florida lost a lot of production, but they did have players returning that they figured could help make up for some of that loss, but so far this season the Gators have struggled to find any rhythm offensively and those players have yet to step up.
Mike White’s team has averaged just 69.9 points per game, which is 13th in the SEC and puts them 278th nationally and aside from scoring 98 and 82 in wins over North Florida and La Salle, they have failed to eclipse 70 points seven times, including their last game, a 57-51 win over Arkansas.
So, the question is, where is the Florida offense going to come from? They shoot just 43% from the field, 34% from three-point land, and 66% from the free throw line and those players that White was hoping would step up, mainly Hudson, Hayes, and Allen have combined to score just 24.5 points per game while shooting 47% from the field, mostly thanks to Hayes’ 68.5%. In fact, the Gators have just two double-digit scorers in Allen and freshman guard Noah Locke, and both of them barely qualify at 10.9 and 10 respectively.
With the middle of the conference being so muddled, there is still a chance for Florida to right the ship, but they will have to find their offensive legs, and doing that against Tennessee, even at home may be too much to ask.
