NCAA Basketball: D’Marcus Simonds, UTSA top mid-major performers

With conference play in full swing, there was plenty of NCAA Basketball action this week. Let’s take a lot at the top mid-major performers of the week.

Best Performance, Individual – D’Marcus Simonds, Georgia State

D’Marcus Simonds stats for the week don’t necessarily jump off the page, but the junior led Georgia State to a pair of key conference wins and the top of the Sun Belt standings.

On Thursday, Simonds 21-4-6-1-1 to help the Panthers win 89-76 at Louisiana.

Then on Saturday, Simonds went for 28-5-2-1 and scored the game-winning buzzer beater in a 74-73 Georgia State win over UL Monroe.

The Panthers have now won six in a row and sit ahead of challengers Texas State, Louisiana, and Georgia Southern in the Sun Belt currently.

Honorable mention goes to Ja Morant for posting 26 points and 18 assists and doing this in a Murray State win over UT Martin, 35-3-6-2 from Jermaine Morrow in a Hampton win over Charleston Southern, 36 from Lance Tejada in an overtime win for Lehigh over Holy Cross, 37 and 7 from Justin Wright-Foreman who also won in overtime for Hofstra over William & Mary, Mike Daum’s 37 and in a SDSU win over Oral Roberts, 24-11-7 from Jimond Ivey as Akron fell to CMU in overtime, and 38-6-4 from Matt Morgan in a Cornell victory vs Townson.
