We’re just a few days away from the first match-up between Indiana and Purdue. What have been some of this rivalry’s most exciting games in recent memory?

On January 19th, Indiana and Purdue will meet at Mackey Arena in West Lafayette for the first of their two games this season. The two Indiana schools have both been in the Big Ten for over a hundred years and have been yearly rivals for over a century. Purdue currently leads the all-time series 118-89 and have gotten the best of the Hoosiers in recent years.

Purdue has won six of the last seven match-ups, including three times in Bloomington. Despite Purdue’s large lead in the overall series, this rivalry has been back and forth in recent times, with Indiana and Purdue mirroring each other’s success, as Indiana had won four straight prior to this current trend. Surprisingly, the teams haven’t met in the Big Ten Tournament since 1998 and haven’t played an overtime game since a 2005 2OT thriller won by Indiana on the road. The rivals also played in the Sweet Sixteen in 1980, the only NCAA Tournament match-up between the two.

Regardless, there has still been a fair share of exciting games between the Hoosiers and Boilermakers in recent times.  While Purdue hasn’t lost at home to Indiana since 2013 (when the Hoosiers were the #3 team in the country), anything can happen in this rivalry, especially important in a tight Big Ten race.

For now, we’re going to take a closer look at the five most exciting match-ups of the last decade.
