Atlantic 10 Basketball: George Mason rising among key weekly takeaways
By Stu Luddecke
This past week of Atlantic 10 Basketball play has given us plenty of meaningful insight about where things stand both currently and moving forward in the conference.
Nothing has made sense in Atlantic 10 Basketball this season, and these last couple of games have only served to strengthen that point. For instance, a team that had started 0-4 and had lost those games by an average margin of 16.25 points defeated a likely conference-title contender. Another team that was expected to (at least) be in the upper half of the conference has limped out of the gate to an 0-5 start. A player whose name didn’t come off a single pundit’s lips over the offseason is now a front-runner for conference Player of the Year.
The season is still extremely young — just a quarter of the way through conference play — and undoubtedly subject to change, but these are a few developments that need to be observed moving forward and considered in any discussions projecting the conference from here on out. How they shake out will have repercussions for both basement teams and title-contenders alike.
