After surviving another close win, Maryland basketball (15-3, 6-1 Big Ten) is going on the road to face an Ohio State Buckeyes team (12-4, 2-3 Big Ten) that has lost three Big Ten games in a row heading into this matchup.
Who:Â No. 19 Maryland Terrapins (15-3, 6-1 Big Ten) at Ohio State Buckeyes (12-4, 2-3 Big Ten)
TV Schedule: Friday, January 18 at 6:30 p.m. ET on FS1
Location: Value City Arena in Columbus, OH
Maryland basketball is still rolling after their 64-60 win over the Wisconsin Badgers led by Anthony Cowan Jr. once again as he scored 21 points to go along with six rebounds, three assists, and two steals. He and Bruno Fernando have been the unquestioned leaders for the Terps during this winning streak.
In the last three games, Cowan Jr. has scored 20 or more points. In two of those three games, he had five or more assists. Scoring and getting his teammates involved seems to be the formula for the Terps success.
They are exceeding expectations thus far building momentum with each win. It helps that they have a significantly better road record than last year’s 2-8. At 3-1 on the road this season, They have the Buckeyes and Michigan State Spartans ahead. If they can win at least one of them, they will be fine.
The Ohio State Buckeyes are desperate for a win having lost three in a row to Big Ten opponents (Michigan State, Rutgers, Iowa). Kaleb Wesson (16.2 PPG, 6.9 RPG) and C.J. Jackson (12.9 PPG, 4.3 RPG, 3.9 APG) are their leading scorers. Wesson is a big body down low at 270 pounds. He can force his way into the paint and has solid post moves to go along with his size. Not to forget, he can also shoot threes. The Jackson vs Cowan Jr. matchup will be something to keep an eye on as well.
Kyle Young (7.4 PPG, 4.9 RPG, 72 percent shooter from the field) will be another player to watch. Ohio State does a great job of getting him in the right spots to make plays, whether it’s on alley-oops or pick and rolls. He is going to be the X-factor for Ohio State in this game much like Nate Reuvers was for Wisconsin.
Will Maryland basketball fall to the Ohio State Buckeyes on the road or will there be an upset in Columbus?
