Providence takes on Marquette in Big East action. Can the Friars become the first road team to leave victorious in the new Fiserv Fourm?

TV Schedule: January 20 at 12:00 PM EST (CBS Sports Network)

Venue: Fiserv Forum (Milwaukee, WI)

Historically, this isn’t a matchup that favors the Friars.

Marquette has won 14 of the last 19 meetings between the two squads dating back to 2007. Overall, the Golden Eagles have won 17 of the 26 contests against Providence since 1949.

Recently, though, the narrative has flipped. Providence has managed to post wins in its last two trips to Milwaukee. The Friars edged the Golden Eagles by two last season; it earned a double-digit win in 2017 on the road at the Bradley Center. Providence swept the season series in 2017.

Providence’s last three losses to Marquette have been decided by five points or less. Two of those contests required an additional period to determine a winner, including a thrilling double overtime matchup in 2016. Former Friar forward Ben Bentil went for 42 points and 12 rebounds in one of the most exciting Big East games in recent memory.

But recent success may be meaningless in this year’s game at the Fiserv Forum. Providence enters Sunday at 11-6 and has lost three of its last four. Marquette, meanwhile, ranks at No. 15 in the country and will be playing in one of the most electric environments in all of college basketball.
