The Virginia Tech Hokies will head to Chapel Hill to take on the North Carolina Tar Heels in a MLK Day matchup of high-ranking ACC schools.

When you think of the ACC this season, it’s hard to think past Duke and Virginia.

Well, there happens to be a pair of teams residing in North Carolina and Virginia that are having great seasons of their own.

North Carolina will host Virginia Tech on Monday, in a matchup of two teams looking to keep pace with Virginia and Duke in a crowded ACC.

Both the Tar Heels and Hokies were projected to be around the top of the ACC. While they’ve kept pace with that prediction, they have both been largely overshadowed, due completely in part to the play of Duke and Virginia.

The Tar Heels are the #13 team in the country. It has been an up-and-down season for Roy Williams’ group, as the Tar Heels have managed to stay afloat despite poor shooting from their top players, and inconsistent play from freshmen.

Meanwhile for the Hokies, the #9 team in the country, they’ve been exceeded expectations. Their only two losses are to Penn State and Virginia, and with a very experienced lineup, the Hokies are expected to be in contention in the ACC until the very end.

Monday’s matchup will be filled with defense, perimeter shooting, and big plays. In a showdown between two of the ACC’s best, this game should come right down to the wire.

Without further delay, here are three storylines to watch in what should be one of the best games of the early conference play season in the ACC.
