Nebraska Basketball has enjoyed their highest level of success in recent school history. But is head coach Tim Miles the guy take the program to the next level?

That headline seems like an asinine question given what’s happening in Lincoln. The Nebraska Basketball team is on pace for perhaps their best season ever. Currently the Cornhuskers sit at 13-6, 3-5 in the Big Ten with two quad one wins and three quad two wins.

Building off last year, where they won 22 games and made the NIT, but just couldn’t get that key win when they needed it, Miles looks set in Lincoln.

However, it’s not that simple.  After last season’s 22-win campaign, new Athletic Director Bill Moos gifted Miles just a one-year “prove it” extension. So far, Miles is proving it, despite reeling this past week.

The resume for Miles overall, though, has been less than stellar. He has yet to win a conference title or win an NCAA tournament game. Between Colorado State and Nebraska, Miles is just 181-191, including 110-103 as a Husker.

What he has done at Nebraska though, is make them nationally relevant. He has landed the two most heralded recruits in Husker Hoops history in guards Glynn Watson and Thomas Allen. Isaiah Roby is also moving up NBA draft boards.

High profile transfers such as James Palmer, Anton Gill, and Isaac Copeland have also decided to finish their careers in Lincoln. Andrew White also played a season in Lincoln after transferring in from Kansas.

This could be attributed to the new state of the art facilities, as Miles is the only coach who has had what he’s had to work with at NU, and some may say he just have an eye for talent.

Nebraska doesn’t have much basketball tradition, so three postseason appearances in seven seasons would seem like yeoman’s work. If the Huskers keep winning and finally win that elusive NCAA tournament game, Miles will be fire-proof and Moos won’t have a choice but to give him a hefty contract extension.
