What if NCAA Basketball was able to create their own trades during the season? Here are 10 potential swaps that could change the landscape for the sport.

The NBA Trade Deadline is fastly approaching, with a ton of drama occurring on the days before. The name of Anthony Davis has filled the headlines, while the futures of multiple organizations such as the Celtics, Lakers, Knicks and others are hanging in the balance. Lesser known trades are occurring as well, solidifying some of the top teams in their push towards making a run in the playoffs.

Although impossible to perform with academics and scholarship ramifications, it would be cool to see what the NCAA Basketball version of a trade deadline would look like around this time. There are several teams in position for a potential national title run, many on the bubble who could use a boost, and those who are out of the running that are looking to retool for next season.

For this piece, I’m going to present 10 hypothetical trade possibilities that might make sense for both programs if allowed. I didn’t want to create unrealistic scenarios such as Murray State trading Ja Morant anywhere, or Duke giving up Zion Williamson for any group of players in return. When it comes to determining a player’s value, I created these rules:

  • “One and dones” are treated as rentals who’ll be around for just half a year
Current freshmen and sophomores expected to be around throughout college will be valued more than seniors and juniors
  • Players listed on rosters will be potentially involved in trades but not commits from the upcoming 2019 recruiting class
  • Trades don’t factor respective team’s scholarship numbers but won’t be lopsided (3 for 1 or 4 for 2)

Of course, there are flaws in any trade but I looked or ways to improve both teams involved with each hypothetical swap, whether it’s this or next season. Which team in these upcoming ones do you think would benefit the most?
