Kansas State Basketball will look to hold on to first place in the Big 12 as they face a real test on the road against Baylor. Here are three keys for the Wildcats.

After a strenuous non-conference play season that featured a major injury to Dean Wade, and a horrible loss at home to Tulsa, the Kansas State Wildcats‘ season was at a limbo.

Once a legitimate Big 12 contender and perhaps NCAA Championship dark horse, the Wildcats were honestly a fringe tournament team. After losing their first two conferences games, that status didn’t change.

How did Kansas State respond? Only by winning their last SEVEN conference games, including games against ranked opponents in Oklahoma, Iowa State, Kansas and Texas Tech.

A big component in that resurgence has bene the return of Dean Wade. The Wildcats’ superstar forward, Wade broke his foot in December, putting a return in question.

However, Wade returned, and has made a major impact on the Wildcats season. In addition, veteran scorers on the most experienced team in the Big 12 have produced past expectations, and have molded Kansas State into one of the most well-rounded teams in the country.

The Wildcats are currently tied for first place in the Big 12 with Iowa State, but hold the head-to-head tiebreaker. Baylor is just one game out after their loss to Texas on Wednesday, but will be tied with Kansas State with a win, and will hold the head-to-head advantage, given that it is the first matchup between the two teams on the season.

Saturday’s game is the biggest of the season for the Wildcats, no question. It won’t be easy to win in Waco, but it is by no means impossible for the red-hot Kansas State Wildcats. Here are three keys to hold on to first place in the Big 12.
