2. Corey Davis Jr.- Houston

Kelvin Sampson has the Cougars rolling. They are currently the class of the American and look to have locked up one of the top 16 seeds in the NCAA tournament. Sampson lost superstar Rob Gray last season to graduation. It remained to be seen how the Cougars would fare this season without Gray. The 23-1 record and sitting atop the standings in the American shows that the Cougars may have some staying power.

A season ago every player for Houston took a back seat to Gray. Now that he is no longer on campus, senior Corey Davis Jr. has stepped in a big way to lead Houston. Davis was a nice second option last season, but this season he has taken his game to the next level. Like every other player on the list, Davis is an elite scorer of the basketball. He can score from all three levels and can be deadly from beyond the arc and is virtually automatic at the free throw line.

Where Davis differs from the rest of the list, is that he can afford to have an off night. His teammates are good enough around him and Houston is still able to win games without Davis bringing his A game every night. Davis doesn’t have off nights very often. The consistency is what makes him a favorite to win this award. The guard would probably run away with this award if the next player on this list was not so important to his teams’ offense and his teams’ success.
