LSU got a major road win against top-5 Kentucky Basketball. What does this mean going forward when it comes SEC Basketball?

There were a few high level games on Tuesday night in college hoops involving ranked teams. From SEC Basketball, No. 19 LSU took on No. 5 Kentucky in Rupp Arena, a place the Wildcats haven’t lost at all season.

The game itself lived up to expectations, with neither team leading by a wide margin. Kentucky’s inability to put away the young Tigers gave added confidence for a team whose best win to this point was Ole Miss.

After a back-and-forth affair in the final minutes, LSU had the ball with second left in the game with the score tied at 71. After a missed layup attempt, LSU forward Kavell Bigby-Williams had the game-winning putback as time expired. Controversy ensued because it was clear offensive interference, but since that’s not a reviewable call, the made basket stood to give the Tigers the 73-71 victory.

Four Tigers reached double figures in scoring, led by sophomore guard Tremont Waters with 15 points. PJ Washington led Kentucky with 20 and nine rebounds, with freshman Keldon Johnson chipping in with 16. The composite of stats showed how evenly-matched this game was, with the field goals, three-pointers, and free throw numbers all being similar.

This was win No. 20 for LSU, giving them their signature resume win for the NCAA Tournament. The Wildcats drop to 20-4 on the season and is now one game back of LSU in the SEC standings. This result has some consequences going forward, including both the conference and the Big Dance.
