In the latest A-10 Basketball takeaways, VCU has solidified themselves as a top-tier team. Also, look out for La Salle in the upcoming conference tournament.

There’s not a lot that one can say for sure about A-10 Basketball right now. Perhaps just that the conference tournament will be a battle every round. One of the things that this previous week showed us (or, since we really already knew it, reminded us of)  is that anybody can beat anybody in this rebuilding year for the conference. Saint Joe’s beat a strong Saint Louis team only to lose by thirty in Olean the following game.

The now 8-2 Davidson Wildcats lost to the 2-10 UMass Minutemen (sans Pipkins) and then got taken to the wire by Fordham in the Bronx immediately after. The tiers of the conference are becoming more apparent as time goes on, but they are extremely prone to osmosis and change. The vast majority of the teams are spearheaded by underclassmen, and their inconsistency can act as a great equalizer on any given night.

There were other important A-10 takeaways outside of those concerning La Salle and VCU, so I’ve added them here as also worth mentioning‘s, so to speak:

  • With their 29-point home loss to Dayton on the 2/9, Rhode Island has lost four out of their last five. They’ll have a chance to get right with a home-game vs. Fordham upcoming.
  • Although Luwane Pipkins has been out for the past week and a half for UMass, the Minutemen have beaten Davidson and taken George Mason to overtime in their last two games.
  • With that win against UMass, the 9-3 George Mason Patriots gave themselves a two game safety net in terms of their status as a top four team. Dayton rounds out the on-pace-for-a-double-bye teams at 8-3, and Saint Louis and Duquesne are tied for fifth at 7-5 each.

With those things said, onto an important discussions concerning VCU:
