Big Ten Basketball Power Rankings: Indiana, Ohio State slides towards bottom
By Adam Childs
Ohio State had a nice little three-game winning streak halted this week by Illinois and then Michigan State. The Buckeyes thought maybe they had righted the ship a bit with the mini winning streak, but that came crashing down in two bad games. Illinois handled them and Michigan State held them to a season-low 44 points.
The Michigan State loss was especially hard as they led by six at halftime but were only able to score 13 points in the second half as the Spartans took control. Turnovers continue to be a problem for the Buckeyes as they had another 15 against the Spartans that helped fuel their comeback.
The Buckeyes like the Hoosiers still might make the tournament but they can not afford many more losses. They still have their chances for big wins as they play four ranked teams along with Northwestern twice. This week they have the Wildcats and travel to Maryland. If they can get two wins this week, it will greatly help their resume and possibly propel them into the last few weeks of the season. But if the lose to Northwestern they may punch their ticket to the NIT instead.
