Butler basketball remains firmly on the bubble entering the final month. What do the Dawgs need to do to add a resume-building road win over Marquette?
This is one of the most important games of the year for Butler basketball. Despite winning three of their last four games, the Dawgs remain firmly on the NCAA Tournament bubble and the reasons for this are relatively simple. For starters, Butler already has 11 losses on the year and their metric rankings are not exactly through the roof like some bubble teams. Additionally, they hold just two Q1 wins on the year and that will likely need to change prior to Selection Sunday.
And with this road matchup against Marquette coming up, the Dawgs will have a massive opportunity to improve their standing on the bubble. Heading into this game, Butler is the last team in our bracketology projected field here at Busting Brackets and this matchup represents an opportunity for them to rise in the rankings. Considering the Dawgs are arguably playing their best basketball of the season so far this year, a win is not out of the question.
With that said, though, Marquette is the much better team on paper and they are almost unbeatable at home. Since the construction of the Fiserv Forum this offseason, the Golden Eagles are 15-1 in front of their home crowd with the lone loss coming to St. John’s on Feb. 5. So, what will it take for Butler basketball to secure this big-time upset win on the road? Let’s dive into three potential keys to success for the Dawgs.
