Big East Basketball Rankings: Marquette holds strong, middle muddles
With less than a month remaining in the regular season, where does each team in Big East basketball stand? Here are our current rankings.
“Does anyone know what is going on in Big East basketball right now?” That is the question that I asked in my version of this piece from a few weeks ago and the league is still very unpredictable. The teams currently at 3-through-10 in the standings are still fairly close together and it is hard to determine where everyone will finish in the league because seemingly anyone can win on any given night in any given arena.
At this point in time, it seems as though the Big East is poised to land 4-5 bids to the NCAA Tournament. Marquette, Villanova, and St. John’s are the three “locks” are this point in time while a few others are competing for bids on the bubble. Perhaps most notably, both Seton Hall and Butler are living precariously on the cutline. The play of these two teams, and some longer shots such as Creighton and Georgetown, will be interesting to watch over the next few weeks.
With under a month left to play until the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden, it is impossible to say exactly where everyone will land in the league standings. Each team has at least four games left and every night in the conference is definitely worth watching. With the way that conference play has played out to this point, the tournament will be an absolute treat of competition.
Now, without any further ado, let’s dive into this edition of my Big East basketball rankings.
