Atlantic 10 Conference

Lead-pipe lock: None.

Firmly in the field: None.

Some perspiration: None.

Double the deodorant: VCU, Davidson, Dayton

VCU Rams (20-6, 11-2 A10)

NET: 37 | KPI: 34 | SOR: 38 | BPI: 39 | KP: 40 | Sag: 48

Q1: 2-3 | Q2: 3-1 | Q3: 7-2 | Q4: 8-0

VCU is rolling. As winners of seven consecutive games, the Rams have really asserted themselves as legitimate contenders for an at-large bid and they would definitely get in right now if they did not win the Atlantic 10 Tournament. Throughout this past month, VCU has played at an exceedingly high level and they are going to be the type of team that no No. 5-7 seed will want to see on Selection Sunday. With a tenacious defense that can lock down and turn over anyone in the country, the Rams have it going. With that said, though, their weak SOS could hurt them down the stretch. VCU might be safe now, but they won’t be in they drop one or two of their final five games in conference play. Current Projected Seed: No. 11.

Davidson Wildcats (19-7, 10-3 A10)

NET: 72 | KPI: 57 | SOR: 62 | BPI: 78 | KP: 79 | Sag: 82

Q1: 0-2 | Q2: 4-2 | Q3: 5-3 | Q4: 9-0

Davidson has a long road ahead in order to make the NCAA Tournament. And while I understand the fact that many bracketologists have started to put them in their fields as an at-large team…I just don’t see it. I want to put mid-majors in the field but I just don’t think Davidson has the resume at this point in time. They are rated extremely low by quality metrics, lack a Q1 win, and have suffered three bad losses so far this season. In order to go dancing, Davidson would likely need to win out before the A10 final. Current Projected Seed: OUT (Next Four Out).

Dayton Flyers (17-9, 9-4 A10)

NET: 75 | KPI: 73 | SOR: 72 | BPI: 57 | KP: 66 | Sag: 75

Q1: 2-5 | Q2: 0-3 | Q3: 4-1 | Q4: 11-0

Dayton is in a similar position to Davidson. With similar numbers across both metrics, the Flyers would need to make a big-time run in order to reach serious contention for an at-large bid. They are among the first 10-12 teams out of my field at this point in time and would need to catch fire to dance. With that said, though, I have been impressed the Flyers many times so far this season. If only they could have held onto their lead against VCU this past weekend; then they might have a decent enough argument to warrant strong consideration. Current Projected Seed: OUT.
